The 2026/2027 coaching team will be led by new Head Coach James McKay. A former Beverley player from the club’s National three days, James brings passion, experience and a deep connection to the club as he takes the reins for the next chapter.
Alongside his distinguished playing career, James has held senior management roles at the RFU and worked in a variety of coaching environments.
Most recently, he has been coaching at St Peter’s School in York, bringing valuable leadership, knowledge and qualifications to the role.
We’re sure you will all join us in giving James a warm welcome and supporting him in his new role

Director of Rugby
We’re delighted to announce that Steve Girking will also be stepping into the role of Beverley RUFC’s Director of Rugby. After more than forty years at the club as a player, captain and coach, Steve brings a huge amount of experience, passion and pride into the role.
“I am delighted to be appointed Director of Rugby for Beverley RUFC, a club that has been a huge part of my life for over forty years.
During that time it has been a privilege to be a player captain and a coach at the club.
Rugby has given me so many great memories and many lifelong friends for which I am so grateful.
My aim is to enable our players to experience the same enjoyment I have had and of course celebrate a lot of success on the way.”
Steve Girking
Chairman of Men's Senior Rugby
We are also delighted to welcome Francis Pickering as Chairman of Men’s Senior Rugby for the 26/27 season.
“I’m delighted and honoured to take on the role of Chairman of Men’s Senior Rugby at Beverley RUFC.
Having been part of the club for 30 years, it feels particularly special to take on this new challenge. Started playing rugby socially at third-team level, progressed through the seconds and was fortunate enough to go on to represent the first team at loose-head prop.
It is a real honour and privilege to work alongside Director of Rugby Steve Girking and the new coaching team, led by James Mckay.
I’m really looking forward to the season ahead, particularly with the challenge of the new league structure.
Our aim is to build successful, competitive and, most importantly, sustainable men’s rugby teams at Beverley RUFC, creating a pathway for our fantastic minis and juniors to follow into senior rugby for many years to come.
Here’s to the season ahead and an exciting new chapter for Beverley RUFC.”
