Beverley RUFC Policy re Dogs

We would like to bring your attention to a matter of increasing concern to Beverley Rugby Union Club – DOG FOULING. Although most dog owners are responsible, the continuing poor behaviour by a minority of irresponsible dog owners and dog fouling is a regular and growing concern.

Feedback from players and spectators indicate that dog fouling is one of the biggest health & safety issues for the club. In particular, some of the parents of our mini and junior section players have complained to the Rugby Football Union. This is very serious as the RFU can impose sanctions on the club and therefore, we have been forced to take action.

East Riding Council has been rolling out a scheme of dog control orders to try and encourage more responsible pet ownership. The four orders create the following offences:

  • The failure to remove dog faeces
  • The failure to keep a dog on a lead
  • The failure to put a dog on a lead when so directed by an authorised officer
  • To allow a dog to enter an area where dogs are excluded from entering

All the offences can be dealt with by a Fixed Penalty Notice of £75.

Residents can help to tackle the problem by reporting those flouting the orders. There is an easy system in place to report dog fouling directly to the Animal Warden Service on 01482 396301. The more information you can give the better as action cannot be taken without knowing when, where and who.

We would like to remind you that the grounds of Beverley RUFC are private land and as such, allowing a dog to roam on the property is considered an offence by East Riding Council. While it is not our intention to prevent the public use of the club, we have decided that if evidence of dog fouling continues, we will be forced to construct a six foot perimeter fence along the sides of the ground that border residential properties.

Finally we have also decided to implement a policy of no dogs in the clubhouse (other than guide dogs).

We trust you will understand and agree with our concerns and proposals and look forward to a continued excellent relationship with our neighbours surrounding the club.

Yours sincerely,

Beverley RUFC
