We are very pleased to announce that Beverley RUFC has been awarded over £9,250 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Community Emergency Fund towards helping the club during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The outbreak of the virus and the consequent shutdown of businesses as of mid-March has left the sport and physical activity sector facing a period of uncertainty. In response, on March 31, Sport England announced a £195m package to help the sport and physical activity sector through Covid-19. Within the package is a £20m Community Emergency Fund, of National Lottery money, to deliver immediate funding to those who have a role in supporting the nation to be active but are experiencing short-term financial hardship or the ceasing of operations due to the impact of coronavirus.
Brian Gilbert, Beverley RUFC’s Chairman, said: “The grant will provide critical funding to allow Beverley RUFC to continue to sustain our operations and obligations. We’ve done a lot of good work over the last few seasons with our finances and, more recently, scaled back a lot of costs considering the Covid-19 crisis and have sought relief from several alternative funding opportunities, including our members. Quite simply the books don’t balance without an income, and relief such as this is extremely important to our existence. We are extremely grateful to Sport England for the award.”
Tim Hollingsworth, Sport England’s Chief Executive, said: “As the body responsible for the growth of sport and physical activity participation, we want the vital grassroots organisations that make sport and physical activity happen in this country to not just to come through this crisis but to be in a position to thrive again in the future. The £20m Community Emergency fund, made possible by National Lottery players is part of a multi-million pound package of support we are providing to ease the pressure on a huge number of the organisations who are central to the nation’s health and wellbeing. We are proud to be able to provide vital funding to Beverley RUFC to help it through these extremely challenging times."
This is great news for the club but we still desperately need your help and support both in terms of volunteering to do jobs at the club and we would also welcome further financial support. To that end, if any individuals or businesses would like to support your local rugby club financially - the aid would be greatly appreciated by all of the committee, players, members, guests and visitors to our club. These troubling times are tough on lots of businesses, charities and sports clubs and we would dearly like to still be here for you when the playing resumes.
Anyone that would like to donate any amount, be it £1 or more, if you can, towards supporting the club to deal with these costs can do so by bank transfer using the reference CV19, to the details below:-
