Juniors

Organisation and Philosophy

The club complies with the requirement and suggestion of the Rugby Continuum, which is the Rugby Football Union's (RFU) guidelines for the conduct for youth rugby. We also support the new initiatives on Child Welfare and Protection and have achieved the sport's accreditation called "Seal of Approval". Our sections are as follows:

Beverley RUFC has many of the players currently in the Youth Section who have progressed through the Junior Section. We are always keen to attract new players.

All youth squads play matches on a Sunday morning with training sessions on an evening during the week depending on a particular age group. Beverley RUFC runs the following age groups:

Contacts

Beverley Junior Section has a number of coaches, all of whom are ex or current players who have a sound understanding of the game. The coaches have undertaken RFU coaching courses and are very well qualified. All are DBS cleared.

At Beverley RUFC there is an emphasis on enjoyment and coaching the children in correct techniques and skills. This serves them where as they get older as correct technique invariably makes up for any physical disadvantages. It also ensures they learn how to play safely and to avoid dangerous situations/positions.

We are also keen to ensure all children are given equal opportunity to participate. We want each child to improve and develop as both a person and a player. Therefore every player is given an equal opportunity to play with substitutes being rotated. Winning is a secondary consideration to safety and enjoyment.

When and Where

We play matches both home and away on Sunday mornings usually with an 11.00am kick off. Fixtures are mainly planned for the season in advance with other teams (list available).  The coach will give details of travel times and venues. After each match home or away food is provided for players free of charge. This is to promote good sportsmanship we encourage all players and parents to meet in the clubhouse after match where most teams present a 'man of the match' trophy.

Training session are each Wednesday from 6.30pm - 8.00pm.

The ground and Clubhouse is located as follows:

Requirements & Cost

On joining your child will need 2 passport-sized photographs. This is a legal requirement to register your child as a Club member and is necessary to comply with Child Protection requirements. The Club has an appointed Child Protection Officer who ensures all guidelines are followed.

The annual membership charge is £90 (If paid in full) or £102 if paid by standing order. We do not charge any match fee's.

Kit and Equipment

Initially all a young player needs is some basic training kit. This can consist of a shirt (generally rugby shirts are best as they are less likely to rip), a pair of shorts or tracksuit bottoms and some boots or training shoes. Training shoes are generally OK at the start of the season but as the ground gets muddier then they will need some boots. The Club will provide shirts for all matches and tournaments. We request that all members purchase the Club shorts and socks at cost price, to be worn for matches. We have a Club Kit shop were socks, shorts, training jackets, gum shields etc. can be purchased at reasonable prices.

Conduct

As stated the Club has a Child Protection Officer who ensures all requirements by law are met.

Beverley RUFC Junior Section has an anti-bullying policy, which helps to ensure that children are happy at the Club. Any action, physical, verbal or psychological, which threatens the happiness of any child is totally unacceptable and contrary to the ethos of Beverley Junior Section. On the very rare occasions inappropriate action is revealed the Coaches will take positive action to ensure it stops and there is no re-occurrence.

The Club also supports the concept of fair play and respect for match officials, other players and spectators. To that end we encourage good sportsmanship and respect for others.

Photographs

The Annual Membership form has a section for Photograph Consent. On occasions we submit press reports to the local papers regarding the Club in general or specific reports on matches the teams have played in. We may also submit a team photo or action photo from the game. All photo's are in a purely rugby setting and their purpose is to promote the game and give the children some publicity. The form gives your consent for such photographs to be taken and is a requirement of current child welfare guidelines.

Medical

Please make sure any medical conditions or needs are brought to the attention of a Club Coach or official. If children require any inhaler or medication then they should ensure it is readily available. Any medication must be self-administered.

General

We are always keen to attract new players. We are a friendly club that aims to give a young player every opportunity to improve and develop. If your child is interested in playing please feel free to give one of the coaches a ring. Parents are more than welcome to stay and watch the training or matches. Usually the Clubhouse is open for tea/coffee and bacon sandwiches.

We are also always keen to attract new coaches. If you are interested in learning more about the game and/or getting involved in coaching then please speak to one of the people below. The RFU hold courses for people who want to become involved in coaching rugby. The courses cater for all levels of experience and knowledge of the game and begin for people who have no prior knowledge or experience of rugby union.
