NatWest Rugby Force Weekend on 23-24th June

Dear member,

My name is Brian Evison, I am the volunteer in charge of the grounds/pitches at Beaver Park.

I am writing to invite you, your family and friends to take part in our NatWest Rugby Force Weekend on 23-24th June.  Nat West support clubs throughout the country by awarding grants to supply materials for the day. Those of you who have been involved with the club will appreciate some of the much needed changes in recent years made to the Clubhouse and pitches. This is an opportunity to enhance these, by helping to clean and tidy up the clubhouse and its surroundings and to smarten up the ground by painting posts, rails and dugouts and tidying up the perimeter by cutting back shrubs, trees etc.

We would like help from 9am to 12pm and 12pm to 3pm on either or both of those days. If you feel you value your club enough to help can you please email Carol Innes at andyinnes@msn.com, stating the date and time that you would prefer.  If you can bring any equipment e.g. paint brushes, tools, saw, strimmer etc. that too would be a big help, please let Carol know.  If you cannot make it you might like to make a small donation to help pay for materials, again, please let Carol know.

We do struggle sourcing willing volunteers to help at the club.  I am very fortunate that I have four helpers on the ground team, but our average age is nearly 70, which says a lot.

One area for example that we really struggle to cope with at the Club is parking, which you may have experienced particularly at the weekends. This is partly due to a lack of space but also to poor parking by drivers.  If a couple of people could volunteer to help for 2 hours on a Saturday or Sunday for one day during the season we could improve parking a lot.  Any volunteer car park attendants out there?

Finally, I was very honoured to be nominated for recognition to the RFU by the Club, as a volunteer who had served the club well for a long period of time (38 years in my case, surely I cannot be that old!).  I was somewhat surprised and delighted to be chosen from 350 nominations to be one of six candidates who received recognition.  It was a grand affair held at York Race Course, which I very much enjoyed.

The most enjoyable part however, was the opportunity to talk to winners of the Junior Volunteer awards.  They were a great credit to their parents and clubs.  The one thing that surprised me about those young people, was that they said, like me, they felt that they got more out volunteering than they put in and also they felt that it had given them life skills that would help them in the future - unlike me!

It would be wonderful to see Beverley youngsters at these ceremonies in the future, please encourage them by your words and actions.  Many thanks for taking time to read this.

Best regards and hope to see you soon,

Brian Evison - Vice President - Beverley RUFC
