BEVERLEY RUFC Under-15’s narrowly lost out 31-22 in a closely contested home game against local rivals Goole as spells of loose defensive work ultimately cost them dear.
The home side started well and early tries from Nathan Cullen and Tom Barnard following set piece plays in the backs gave them a deserved 10-0 lead.
The forwards were also demonstrating a mature defence with Oliver Waites – starting his first game as prop – showing great promise.
However, there was a warning sign just before half time when Goole snatched a converted try to make it 10-7 at the break.
The second half was an entertaining affair. Barnard scored in the first minute,
Goole then hit back with two tries before Cullen collected his second try of the match.
Both teams threw everything at each other but it was Goole who proved the more clinical as Ben Wilkinson found himself held up short of the line and Alex Nuttall saw a try disallowed.
Man of the match went to Wilkinson with special mentions for Jasper Law who played a full game at scrum half for Goole and Oliver Waites.
