Under 13 Roundhegians Home - Lost 15-45

Match Report

In a repeat of last week’s defeat to Pocklington, the inability of the Beverley Under-13 side to sustain their performance for a full 50 minutes resulted in a second half all will want to forget as they slipped to a 45-15 defeat to Roundhegians at Beaver Park.
‘Hegians attacked straight from the kick off with the ball moving into the hands of their mountainous second row to cut a swathe through the Beverley defence and touch down for the first score.  Worse was to follow two minutes later when Beverley had attacking ball in their opponents 22 turned over and released to the ‘hegians right wing to score the first of his three remarkable tries each commencing in his own 22.  There were holes throughout the Beverley defence that the Roundhegians second row exploited to charge over for his second try and a 0-15 score line with only 12 minutes gone.
Suddenly the home fortunes changed, full back Josh Willans collected a loose fly hack and returned it 40 yards before a fired up Sam Bayes charged through the remaining defence to collect Beverley’s first try. More chances were to follow but unfortunately squandered with errant passing failing to capitalise clear overlaps. However, Jacob Parkinson made up for an uncharacteristic error to power through the opponents midfield  and touch down. Spirits revived, Beverley’s forwards got a push on in an attacking scrum and from the resultant drive Louix Gorman dummied from the bottom of the ruck to dive over and tie up the score 15-15 at half time.
Hopes of Beverley carrying this momentum into the second half quickly dissipated with a familiar burst from ‘hegians second row to complete his hat trick a minute into the second half.  Five further tries were to follow in a second half where Beverley failed to support their runners and capitalise on the possession and territory they mustered; attacking ball was consistently turned over and punished by a clinical visiting back line as they completed their victory. Scrum half George Youngs was nominated Beverley’s Man of the Match for a solid all round game on a tough day.
