BEVERLEY RUFC Under-13's made the short trip to Driffield on Wednesday for their first fixture of the season and ran out comfortable 84-0 winners with the latter part of the game played on after both sides agreed.
The visiting side were at last able to field a full team after clashes with rugby league fixtures and the game started well, despite a few handling errors that were to be expected due to the long break and lack of game time. It was the first time the boys had experienced contested scrums and they looked slightly shaky at the beginning with an entirely new front row.
However, it wasn’t long before they found their stride and from some good work by a mostly new pack the backs finally had some good ball to play with and Joseph Britton went on his signature mazy run to open the scoring.
A further seven tries then followed in the first half. The try of the half had to be the score by Jack Bryans who caught a long kick inside his own 22 and set off on a run from full back to finish superbly in the corner.
At half time the Driffield coaches agreed to continue playing and Driffield rallied and showed great heart but Beverley continued there relentless assault on the Driffield try line scoring another four tries.
Four new players made debuts for the club having joined from rugby league, Brad, Jack D, Mathew and Harrison all impressed and given time will be valuable additions to the Beavers
Player of the week was Joel Hartbridge
