Beverley Under-14’s travelled to Hull Ionians and recorded an excellent 43-14 win.
From the kick off the large Ionioas pack were able to win the first ruck and set up for a quick score in the opening minutes.
At the return kick off Beverley applied pressure on the Ionians attack, allowing the ball to be spilled and the backs the opportunity to pounce and score. In the following 10 minutes both teams exchanged scores setting up a half time lead of 17-14 to Beverley.
Following a few words of inspiration from debut coaches Steve and Neil, the boys stepped out into the second half and went up the gears allowing them to dominate play against Ionians.
The back row dominated the opposing forwards with strong tackling and superb counter rucking. This provided the front 5 an opportunity to open up the play with strong hole punching runs.
The possession advantage allowed the backs to carve open opportunities and keep Ionians locked in their own half for most of the second half.
This dominant position allowed numerous scores (and 3 disallowed tries) to give a final score of 43-14.
Pass of the match was awarded to Harry for fantastic try scoring offload.
Tackler of the week went to Charlie who folded their biggest forward like a deck chair with a crunching tackle.
Man of the Match - Steve and Neil agree this was the hardest decision of the morning.
The whole back row of Aaron, Ben, Archie and Toddy were impressive individually and as a unit, selfishly working to stop the Ionions pack. With hard tackling, ball winning counter rucking and being generally pain the necks all the game they set the platform for the Beverley victory.
After a long debate Archie was selected as man of the match for a towering performance.
A great team performance on windy and muddy pitch, however, it has been noted the after match singing was to a poor standard but the boys were simply celebrating Steve and Neil's 100% winning record and can be forgiven.
