Beverley RUFC Under-14’s travelled to Hullensians for the first time in two seasons and left having secured an excellent 41-17 win.
Beverley won the toss and elected to kick with the wind behind them. The kick chase was excellent from the Beverley pack and the pressure applied caused lots of problems for the Hullensians team. Dropped ball in their own 22 set up an early opportunity for Beverley. From a strong scrum, the visitors won quick ball and attacked the home side’s try line. Some strong tackling from the home side initially stopped the advance, but quick recycling from the forwards allowed the ball to be moved to the wing for the first try to be scored in the corner.
Beverley started to dominate up front. Three scrums were won against the head and the counter rucking at breakdowns gave the backs freedom to attack. From broken play, Beverley kicked cross field to bring another try in the corner for the Beverley winger.
Hullensians didn’t let their heads drop though. From their lineout, Beverley drove them backwards, however they managed to release the ball and some quick passing and good line breaks saw Hullensians score a try in the corner from within their own 22.
Beverley bounced back immediately from the restart. A forwards drive saw the second row pick and go from five yards out scoring under the posts. A further try before half time saw the score 29-7 at the break.
In the second half it was a similar story, Beverley dominating up front, but the strong Hullensians backs always ready to pounce on Beverley mistakes. The game opened up midway through the second half, with a lot of broken play and individual strong runs. Beverley’s winger scored the final try for a hat trick. Beverley winners 41-17.
Tries came from Joe Coates (3), Tom Rea (2), Ryan Westerman and Sam Davies. Westerman landed three conversions. Tackle of the week was made by Ollie Egan, pass of the week came from Archie Harwood and man of the match was Joe Coates.
