Beverley RUFC Under-14’s travelled to Morley for the first round of the Yorkshire Cup, emerging with an excellent 40-0 victory.
The conditions were very wet from the start and played a big part in how the match would be played. Beverley won the toss and elected to kick up hill into the wind and rain.
It was a scrappy start to the match with dropped ball from both sides due to the conditions. Beverley also looked a little rusty as it was their first match of the new season
After 10 minutes of backwards and forwards play in the centre of the pitch, Beverley were awarded a line out close to the Morley 22. Beverley secured clean quick ball which gave the backs plenty of space for a cross field kick into the goal area to be touched down by Jack Charles for the first try of the match.
From the restart, Beverley were now into their stride and forced Morley backwards to their 22. Another mistake gave Beverley the put in to a scrum, which again gave them the chance to kick through for Alex Argent-Moss to collect a score in the corner.
Beverley’s defence held and the Morley team struggled to get close to their 22. Half time and the score was 21-0 to Beverley.
After the break, Beverley continued to pressure the Morley defence with a number of strong line breaks from the full back, centre and second row.
Strong scrums and clean line outs created further attacking platforms for the now dominant backs who ran in a further 3 tries in the second half.
An excellent long-range conversion finished the game at 40-0 to Beverley.
Try Scorers were Jack Charles (2), Alex Argent-Moss(2), Ryan Westerman and Sam Davies Tackle of the Week went to Ryan Powers, man of the match to Sam Davies and pass of the week to Max Bayes.
