BEVERLEY Under-15's progressed to the second round of the Yorkshire Cup with a 30-14 victory at Wharfedale.
They started strongly with strong running by the forwards punching holes in the defence.
A series of drives, led by the front row of Hobson, Reid and Spence, pushed Beverley into the opposition 22.
From a scrum, Hirst picked up and drove forward. Quick ball from the breakdown gave space for the backs to release Carling for the first try.
Beverley continued to dominate and a kick through from fly-half Prescott was collected by Celella, who fed Hirst in support who then put Carling through for his second.
A third try soon followed when backrow Rial cut inside to score under the post which he also converted.
Wharfedale showed great determination and put several phases of play together which, following a couple of tap penalties, led to a score in the corner.
An excellent conversion made the half time score 17-7.
Beverley started the second half strongly and from a lineout close to the Wharfedale line, the pack took a good catch and drive to set up a maul drawing in the Wharfedale defence. This allowed scrumhalf Scanlan to break down the blindside, evading a covering tackle to score. A further penalty by Rial pushed the score out to 25-7. Beverley continued to play through the pack with strong games by Knight and Vaux, led by Man of the Match Oliver Eagle. Beverley’s final try involved good hands from Wilkinson and Cowey to release Carling to score his third in the corner.
Wharfedale came back in the last 10 minutes and added a converted try for 30-14.
