BEVERLEY under-13's made a positive start to the season with a 16-try victory over Scunthorpe at Beaver Park. In the spirit of the game, the game was over at 50-0 but both teams then carried on to their great credit.
Beverley were immediately on the front foot when Scunthorpe lost possession after the kick-off.
Advantage was played and some quick recycling from the ruck allowed the Beverley back line to break through the first line of tackles.
Quick recycling again allowed the backs to move the ball through hands to score the first try in the corner after only three minutes.
Scunthorpe opted to receive the kick off and again it was a similar story.
Beverley quickly gained possession and continued to play in the Scunthorpe half.
Some excellent interplay between the forwards saw Beverley drive forward and continue to attack the Scunthorpe line.
Tries kept coming for Beverley as they dominated play.
The back line looked dangerous every time they had the ball with excellent space created for the wingers from straight running lines and sharp passing.
A special mention goes to debutant Ollie Woolock who crossed the line to score through strong running and sheer determination.
The second half started as the first ended.
The kick-off was taken by Nick Taylor who then beat four or five Scunthorpe players and then offloaded to Jack Charles for a superb team try.
The forwards and back line continued to dominate play.
Max Bayes at fly half dictated play with centres Jack Charles and Oliver Egan crashing through the Scunthorpe defence.
It was a promising start to the new season for Beverley with awards going to Nick Taylor (Pass of the Week), Oliver Egan (Tackle of the Week) and Max Bayes (Player of the Week).
