Match Report

Guisborough kicked off in this Yorkshire League 1 match and had 5 points on the board before Beverley had touched the ball with a smartly taken try from Joe Whyman (0-5). A stunned Beverley hit back and mounted a series of attacks, resulting eventually in a penalty which Phil Duboulay kicked to make it 3-5.

The Beavers then kept up the pressure and after 20 minutes Isaac Keighley picked up from the back of a forward drive to touch down for a try which Phil Duboulay converted (10-5).Beverley were playing some attractive rugby and after a further 10 minutes of relentless pressure Rhys Innes who was having a splendid game made a break from 30 metres out and evaded several tackles before slipping a pass to Jack Foster who scored wide out. Phil Duboulay added the extras to make it 17-5.

5 minutes later a jinking run down the left touchline saw Theo Richardson score near the corner.(22-5). The ever reliable Phil Duboulay kicked the conversion to make it 24-5.

Beverley were really in ruthless mood by now and on the stroke of half time Theo Ricardson scored his second try to give them the bonus point. He also went round behind the posts to make life easier for Phil Duboulay to kick the conversion (31-5).

Half time :- Beverley 31 Guisborough 5

Guisborough started the second half apparently determined to show that Beverley were not home and dry and made several inroads into Beverley’s territory. However, despite playing some impressive rugby, they lacked the necessary finishing power to split the Beavers’ defence and, eventually,  Beverleyregained the upper hand. Jack Foster scored his second try which Phil Duboulay again converted to stretch the lead to 38-5 and leave Guisborough with a mountain to climb.

The task was clearly beyond them and tries for Beverley from Rob Wilhoite and Isaac Keighley, the first of which Phil Duboulay converted seemed to settle matters at 50 points to 5.

However, Guisborough came back with a well deservedconsolation try from Josh Corcoran to make it 50 points to 10. Back came Beverley and an exhausted looking Guisboroughdefence were incapable of keeping out James Graham who scored in the corner  for Phil Duboulay to convert (57-10).

Although this scoreline looks like a drubbing, Guisboroughplayed their part in what was a very entertaining, clean game played in a fine spirit and very well controlled by referee Phil Gordge. Beverley’s man of the match was Rhys Innes in the forwards and Theo Richardson in the backs.
